On July 17, 2017 Eric “Zippo” Zimmerman passed away from a long time battle with cancer. Eric was a lifelong resident of the Kittanning area with his wife, Denise of 28 years. For 41 years, Eric worked as a laborer and foreman for Swank Construction but was best known as goaltender for the Armstrong Arrows from 1968 to 1976. Fans knew the saying “Only God saves more than Zimmerman”.
He enjoyed visiting amusement parks, hunting, riding quads, watching hockey and football games, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends and watching his son play football. Eric will be remembered as being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a hardworking man who cared for his family.
Eric is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Denise L. (Meyer) Zimmerman; a son, Eric M. Zimmerman, Jr. of Kittanning; three daughters, Tonya J. (Zimmerman) Kilgore and husband, Cody, of Kittanning, Kylea R. (Zimmerman) Toney and husband, Ryan, of Fort Drum, NY, and Eryka A. Zimmerman of Fort Drum, NY; two grandchildren, Bella Zimmerman and Waylon Kilgore and one on the way in January 2018; a sister, Diann Flick and husband, Samuel, of Sunnyside; and three brothers, Harry Zimmerman and wife, Leslie, Kurt Zimmerman and wife, Allison, and Carl Zimmerman all of Kittanning.
Zippo will be truly missed by all Swank Employees.
